Faith . Compassion . Community
If someone were to ask you, “What’s the mission of Trinity Church?” OR, “In three words, how do we share in God’s
mission for the world?” What would you say?
I hope that you would respond, “Look! The three words in red ink at the top of this box define and shape our part in God’s mission.” I hope that you would be able to show the places in this bulletin that these three words are used together. I hope that you would be able to point to the soffit above the long counter in the center of the Reception Area and say, “See? There they are. That’s our mission!”
If you were not able to answer the question of what shapes the work of Trinity Episcopal Church in St. Charles, we—your clergy, Vestry, and our congregation as a whole—have not been doing our job! We should be able to demonstrate the relationships between who we are and what we do. We need to talk about why we do what we do.
To that end, our Stewardship focus for six weeks is shaped by those three words. We continue to call on saints and biblical people to help us. Our two FAITH models were Francis of Assisi and Mary, the Mother of Jesus. Last week, we began our focus on COMPASSION, with a biblical example we know from the Gospels, Joseph of Arimathea! TODAY, we welcome a modern model of COMPASSION, Teresa of Calcutta (Mother Teresa)!
Next week, we meet a biblical model of COMMUNITY—Moses!
